Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take to see results?
You will start to see results before you finish your first lesson - often times in a matter of 5-10 minutes.
How much do I have to practice?
If you practice for at least 20 minutes a day, you will see results. Obviously the more you practice, the better your results are going to be. The dog-training team consists of 3 players: you, your dog, and your trainer. You control 2/3 of the team's time and efforts.
How long do training sessions last?
Training sessions generally last anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes, with one hour being the average. While 60 min is the average, it's unrealistic to assume that any dog/ puppy can concentrate and work for a solid hour. Several mental and physical breaks are included in each lesson, at the trainer's discretion. Boot Camp graduations and lessons given to large families or multiple dogs may last up to two hours.
How often are the lessons?
All lessons are private, and scheduled around your availability. In most cases, it is ideal to have one training session per week, but if your needs differ, we can try to accommodate them.
How much will this cost?
The cost of your training program depends on a number of factors, such as your training goal, the type of problems you are having, and the type of program you select. All of our programs are custom-tailored to each dog so the only way to accurately quote the cost of training is to schedule an evaluation and determine the needs of your specific dog. We'll be glad to provide you with a ballpark price, so just text us at 941.812.7188, and talk to Gaby, the trainer. In short Evaluations are $100-$200, On Site starts at $950, Boot Camp starts at $3500.
Why shouldn't I just go to a big-name pet store, or breed club, and pay the $100 for a group class?
If you wanted a great steak dinner, would you go to a fast-food restaurant? Big pet store chains are all about QUANTITY, not QUALITY. With Complete K-9 Academy, Inc., you're paying for the very best in professional training - guaranteed! Consider the following: Over 50% of the dogs we see each year, have already been to group training, with an amateur trainer. To those clients, the cost of the class was wasted money and time. With Complete K-9 Academy you won't waste either. We promise, and stand behind our work 100%! If we don't believe we can help you, we won't sign you up. Honesty is our best policy.
Do you offer In Home services?
No. All of our business is conducted at our location . We no longer offer In Home lessons and Evaluations. There are three reasons why In Home lessons are no longer available:
Our track record has proven that we can accomplish a whole lot more at out facility, where we have practically an unlimited supply of distractions and socialization opportunities.
Gaby performs all of the dog training services offered, and she maintains the kennel, and the training grounds with the help of her husband. This is to ensure the highest quality and accountability. Traveling away from the facility means less training, and less attention for her In Kennel students, boarders and her own dogs.
We actually have a training facility. We don't need to do appointments in parks, public areas or driveways. This is where beginner dog trainers start, and we were there once. It is not better to train your dog at your home. Your dog feels comfortable and bold, has an inflated attitude, and does not present a challenge to his/herself. We want the dog to grow, to learn to cope with stress of unknown surroundings, to accept challenges, and to solve them correctly. A lot can be said about an animal (or person) when taken out of their comfort zone. We want to work with who your dog really is, and not who he wants you to believe he/she is. This is how the biggest improvements are made.
Outside of client convenience, we see absolutely no reason to dilute the results of our training programs. Therefore, all clients must come to our facility. We sincerely apologize if this inconveniences you, but we promise you'll not be disappointed if you take the drive.
What methods of training do you use?
The training methods we use vary depending on the needs of the specific dog, and its owner(s). In general we use what is known as a Balanced Training Method. A Balanced Training Method essentially rewards good behaviors through positive reinforcement such as praise, play or attention, and corrects negative behaviors, via means such as touch, leash correction, or sound. It is important to note that all training methods are not appropriate for all dogs. We carefully take into account your dog's age, learning style, motivators, physical limitations, temperament, and behaviors, before determining the best training method for him/her. One thing we do not do is pump your dog full of treats, or use harsh intimidation techniques, to get results. Our methods are proven, and the results speak for themselves. Please take a look at our extensive Graduates database.
Do you work with any breed of dog?
Yes, we work with all sizes, and breeds, of dog. It is unfortunate that many people stereotype certain breeds as "problem" or "naturally aggressive". Many trainers, groomers, and even vets, simply refuse to work with certain breeds, because of these stereotypes. We have successfully trained American Pitbulls, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Cane Corsos, Dogo Argentinos, Presa Canarios, Rottweilers, Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Beagles, Basset Hounds, English Bulldogs, Mastiffs and many other breeds that are often classified as "untrainable".
Do you offer support after graduation?
Absolutely! Because we are willing to keep up our part of the training commitment, we offer Life of the Dog Support to each dog that completes any of our training programs. This means continued access to help and advice for the life of your dog via text, FaceTime or calls at no charge. On Site or In Kennel refreshers can be arranged also, at cost.
